Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, MN) - The Honkers pitching staff blew one of their biggest leads of the season on Friday to fall by a final score of 15-12.
On a more positive note, left fielder Justin Parr (Illinois) picked up a base hit in the opening inning to extend his Honkers-record hitting streak to 22 straight games.
The Honkers were up by a score of 8-0 after their first three half innings at the plate. Their six-run third inning was highlighted by a bases-clearing double from the bat of centerfielder Jordan Parr (Illinois).
The Beetles got on the board in the bottom half of the frame thanks to a two-run double from catcher Robert Case (St. Johns). The Beetles scored three runs off of Honkers starter Chris Noble (Pikeville), who lasted 5.0 innings and struck out four to pick up the no-decision.
Jordan Parr added his eighth home run of the season in the fifth, and went 3 for 5 with four RBis to earn Northwoods League Player of the Night honors.
The Honkers were up 11-3 going to the Alexandria half of the seventh inning when the wheels fell off and the wagon exploded.
The rally began when second baseman Tanner Vavra (Valparaiso) belted a two-run homer off Rochester reliever Nicholas Pecha (Dakota Wesleyan) to cut the lead to 11-5. Designated hitter Ryan Padilla (New Mexico) blasted a grand slam off of Tyler Lohr (Doane) and before anyone knew it the Beetles had sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 12 times on just five hits.
The Honkers used four pitchers on the night, including three in that disastrous seventh inning.
Chad Wallach (Cal State Fullerton), Reid Roper (Illinois), and Mike Lukkason (Dakota Wesleyan) each collected two hits for the losing Honkers.
The Beeltes take took two out of three games to win the series against the Honkers.
The Honkers (12-21, 27-41) are back in Rochester, MN to play the St. Cloud Rox (20-14, 29-39) at 7:05 PM tomorrow, August 11th. Righty Phil Richmond (Coe) will start for the Honkers against Rox right-hander Ty Jackson. Richmond is 0-0 with a 5.63 ERA in eight appearances, all in relief. Jackson is 2-1 in 15 games with an ERA of 4.30.
Following the game will be a Fireworks Extravaganza presented by the Rochester Honkers and KTTC.
