Green Bay Rockers News Release
After rain and poor field conditions delayed the game for over an hour, the Bullfrogs rallied to defeat the Express in a back and forth game from Carson Park in Eau Claire on Thursday.
The Bullfrogs started strong early with three runs in the first inning. Brian Celsi and Billy Moon each scored on wild pitches and Nick Stein scored on an RBI single from Taylor Petersen to give Green Bay a 3-0 lead early.
The Express tied it up in the bottom of the second inning with three runs of their own on five hits off of Green Bay starter Ben Graff, and took a 4-3 lead an inning later in the third.
The Bullfrogs plated two in the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead. Mac Acker walked with the bases loaded to drive home the first run. The other scored on a Jason McMurray single.
The Bullfrogs tacked on another valuable insurance run in the eighth inning on Ryan Matranga's first home run of the season. The score was 6-4 heading to the bottom of the eighth.
However, the Express brought home two unearned runs off of Will Landsheft in the bottom half to tie the game at 6-6. Tim Zier and Jimmy Allen scored the runs.
Green Bay responded immediately with two runs in the top of the ninth inning to take the lead for good. Mac Acker and Alex Abrams scored on back-to-back RBI singles from Dan Douglas and Brian Celsi to give the Bullfrogs an 8-6 lead.
Alex Abrams gave up one run, but pitched an otherwise scoreless ninth to earn his third save of the season and finalize an 8-7 victory for the Bullfrogs.
The Bullfrogs are now 33-34 on the season, and return home for a three game series against the La Crosse Loggers to close out the season.
The Bullfrogs return home to host the La Crosse Loggers on Friday in what will be the final home series of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Join us at Joannes Stadium for an exciting Friday night. It will be Pink in the Park night. The Bullfrogs will wear pink jerseys to raise awareness for breast cancer.
