
Homers Lift Grizzlies Past RiverHawks

SAUGET, Ill. â The RiverHawks lost to the Gateway Grizzlies by a final score of 9-6 at GMC Stadium.
Daylon Monette hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning giving the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead. Wayne Astrauskas added a solo homerun in the bottom of the second inning pushing the score to 5-0. Gary Gilbert hit a RBI single in the bottom of the fourth giving Gateway the 6-0 lead.
Rico Santana hit a solo homerun that put the RiverHawks on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning. The RiverHawks added two more runs when Aaron McEachran hit a homer to right-field making the score 6-3.
In the bottom of the fifth inning Mike Breyman drove in the deciding run on a single for Gateway.
Santana added another homerun in the top of the eighth inning. Santana finished the night 4-5 with two homeruns and three RBI.
Brandon Smith got the win for Gateway. Scott Sobkowiak took the loss for the RiverHawks.
The RiverHawks continue the series at Gatway tomorrow night at 7:05. The âHawks return home to Marinelli Field at 7:05 on Tuesday June 22th against the Richmond Roosters. It will be "2 For Tuesday" featuring two hot dogs or two sodas for $2 sponsored by Dr Pepper/7-Up. Call (815) 964-BALL for tickets.
