CLEARWATER, FL - Estibenzon Jiménez looked great in 5.0 shutout innings, but a three-run eighth for the Bradenton Marauders (21-17) was enough to give the Clearwater Threshers (28-10) their first loss of the series in a 3-1 defeat on Saturday night at BayCare Ballpark. The Threshers and Marauders conclude the series on Sunday afternoon.
The game was scoreless until after the seventh inning stretch, with the home half of the seventh beginning on a leadoff walk to Otto Kemp. Jordan Viars singled him over to third base before Felix Reyes lined a pitch from Blake Cederlind into centerfield to plate the first run of the game.
Bradenton stormed back in the eighth with three runs to take the lead and sealed their first win of the series at 3-1 with the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth.
Jiménez tossed 5.0 scoreless innings with one hit, four walks and five strikeouts in a no-decision. Alex Rao allowed three runs on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 2.0 innings and took the loss. Wesley Moore allowed one hit and one walk with three strikeouts in the final 2.0 innings with a blown save.
Jiménez tossed 5.0 shutout innings for the second time in his career against Bradenton... He has struck out 13 batters in 10.0 innings over two starts against the Marauders... Reyes has three of his four RBIs at home... Kemp extended his on-base streak to 27 games and his hit streak to nine... Cole Moore's on-base streak reached seven games dating back to April before his injury...
