ON THE FIELD: Call-ups, surges shape Generals as 2nd Half starts

After sending six Generals to the Southern League All-Star Game at Biloxi on June 18, Jackson has seen a few changes to its roster lately.

*Second baseman Andy Young and starting pitcher Riley Smith (first and second pictures, above) were each called up to Triple-A Reno in late June after excelling in the First Half. Young led the team with 101 total bases, and Smith ranked second in the league in ERA at 1.75.

*Catcher Daulton Varsho (third photo, above) continues to add to his bounty, both in statistics and honors. After going 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI in the Southern League All-Star Game, Varsho was tapped to represent the Arizona Diamondbacks at this year's MLB Futures Game on July 7 in Cleveland.

*As a reinforcement, outfielder Mark Karaviotis (headshot photo, above) was called up to Double-A after earning an All-Star commendation from the California League in the First Half. He won the Cal League All-Star Game's MVP award and batted .286 at Visalia, and Karaviotis has 9 total bases already in 8 games with the Generals.

?The defending Southern League champions have seven of the Arizona Diamondbacks' top 30 prospects on their current roster. Check out the team's statistics here!
