Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release
Hunter Stovall, Coco Montes, Niko Decolati and John Cresto hit home runs as the Grand Junction Rockies beat the Missola Osprey 10-7 Thursday night at Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
All four home runs came after Osprey starter Marcos Tineo left game following a two run, four inning outing and the Rockies trailing 4-2. Hunter Stovall led off the fifth with his seventh home run of the season to make it a one run game, and Cresto, playing for just the third time in the second half, came up after Decolati singled and Daniel Montano walked, slugging his third home run of the season to put the Rockies up 6-4.
Trent Fennell faced the minimum in three innings, but gave up four runs in the fourth, the last three coming on Kristian Robinson's first home run in an Osprey uniform, but after the Rockies regained the lead, Missoula scored an unearned run off Michael Agis in the bottom of the fifth, only to see Montes and Decolati hit back-to-back homers in the sixth. Montes' eighth home run of the season came after Stovall reached on an error, making it a 9-5 game.
Robinson took Agis deep with nobody on in the sixth, but Will Golsan's RBI single in the seventh got that run back.
Following a scoreless seventh inning from Colton Harlow, Zack Shannon hit his league-best 14th home run of the season off Aneudy Duarte in the eighth. Alexander Martinez worked around a double in the ninth for his 16th save of the season. He is two saves shy of the Pioneer League record which was last done by Andrew Johnston of Casper in 2005. Agis earned his sixth win of the season, and he is one win shy of the franchise record set by Eddie Butler and Alving Mejias in 2012.
Decolati finished with three hits, while Montes and Stovall added two.
The win improves the Rockies to 16-10 in the second half, 36-28 overall, and they maintain their 2-game lead over Ogden for first place in the South Division with 12 games to play.
After an off day Friday, the Rockies return to action Saturday night when they take on the Idaho Falls Chukars in the first game of a 4-game series. The first pitch from Suplzio Field is set for 7:30.
