Home Run Derby Opens Freedom Season

The Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, are excited to announce the Opening Night Home Run Derby on May 10 in collaboration with the Reds Hall of Fame.

The home run derby will take place before the Freedom take on the Joliet Slammers to open up the season at UC Health Stadium. Pokey Reese, Dmitri Young, and Reggie Sanders will compete against one another in a pre-game home run derby presented by Marathon and Montgomery Inn. Gates will open to the public at 5:35pm, with the derby slated for 6:15pm. First pitch between the Freedom and Slammers is scheduled for 7:05pm.

In addition to the Cincinnati legends swinging for the fences, three lucky fans selected at random from the VIP Meet 'n Greet will have the opportunity to compete side-by-side with the former big leaguers by having their own round within the derby (or designate another guest).

Young, Sanders & Reese will then throw out the ceremonial first pitch, and sign autographs and take photos on the concourse during the Freedom and Slammers game.

The night will also feature $1 Thirsty Thursday domestic beer pricing ($4 crafts) and Pepsi products. All fans with tickets are allowed entrance into the pre-game home run derby.

The Freedom will be looking to defend their Frontier League West Division title and earn their third playoff spot in the past four seasons. The Freedom went 61-35 in 2017, representing the most wins in a single season in franchise history.

NOTE: Parking at UC Health Stadium, home of the Freedom, is free to the public in the general parking lots next to the stadium. One VIP lot immediately next to the 3rd base entrance is $5.
