The Canadian Football League held its annual outstanding player awards ceremony last night in Edmonton with Saskatchewan Roughrider Corey Holmes bringing home the hardware for his efforts on Special Teams.

Holmes was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Special Teams Player of the Year in just his second year of pro football and the first year for the award to be handed out. Holmes beat out Montreal return specialist Keith Stokes.

The Mississippi Valley State product excelled at his position by leading all CFL players in punt return yards with 1,023. He was second in the league with 1,035 kickoff return yards and 2,677 all-purpose yards (the bulk of which was accumulated on special teams duty).

The diminutive speedster, who stands just five-foot-eight, often gave the Roughrider offense instant field position with his terrific returns and ability to break a tackle.

Holmes signed with the Riders in June of 2001 as a free agent.
