Rockford IceHogs News Release
Muskegon, Mich.- The Rockford IceHogs couldn't overcome Muskegon Fury winger Scott Hollis' natural hat trick in the second period Sunday afternoon, falling 4-2 at the L.C. Walker Arena. The Fury jumped out to a 4-0 lead and starved off an IceHogs rally for the win.
Muskegon took a 1-0 lead after center Todd Robinson batted in a rebound past IceHogs goalie Michel Robinson at 4:06 of the first period. Robinson and Muskegon goaltender Sylvain Daigle both turned away good scoring chances, keeping the game 1-0.
In the second frame however, Hollis heated up and put Rockford in a four-goal hole. His first tally came at 5:32, stuffing one past Robinson. Hollis then made the score 3-0 on the power play blasting one top shelf. He later completed the hat trick at 16:44 firing one five-hole past the Hogs goalie.
Rockford didn't give in however, but their rally came up short. Defenseman Nathan Lutz put Rockford on the board at 18:50 of the middle frame, giving the Hogs some life. But Muskegon fought off four third period Hogs power plays and allowed only one third period goal. Center J.C. Ruid would later make it a 4-2 game with a goal at 16:51 of the third.
Rockford out shot Muskegon 33-25, but went 0-for-8 on the power play. Daigle made 31 saves to earn the win.
Next Home Game: Wednesday, March 9 vs. Quad City Mallards. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Mallards return to Rockford on another PigOut Wednesday. Fans can purchase a pulled pork sandwich and a beer for only $5.
