Quad City Malady

Kansas City Outlaws News Release

You can't win 'em all, although the way the Kansas City Outlaws have been playing, that might be debatable. The bottom line is the streaking Outlaws- winners of their last 3 in a row- couldn't get the job done in Quad City tonight, and lost for the first time on this 4 game road trip, falling 3-1 to the Mallards.

The Mallards' Patrick Nadeau opened scoring just 2:08 into the first period, beating Outlaw netminder Maxime Gingras to put Quad City on top, 1-0. Nadeau was assisted by Mike Kompon and Andy Fermoyle.

Kompon added a tally of his own later in the period. With Jason Ruff in the penalty box for cross checking and Quad City on the power play, Kompon took the feed from Mallard Jason Deskins and notched his 21st goal of the year. Troy smith also assisted on that goal.

Some bad blood erupted between Quad City and Kansas City, starting with an ugly incident late in the 1st period. Briane Thompson and former Kansas City Blade Marty Standish tussled a bit. Thompson collected 2 minutes for roughing and another 5 for kicking, while Standish picked up for for roughing and slashing. Outlaw Mark Lee also received 4 minutes worth of roughing for the incident. When Jami Yoder was whistled for hooking just a minute into the 2nd period, the Mallards took over with a 5-3 advantage. Kompon added another power play goal 38 seconds later (Greg Barber, Terry Hollinger). Quad City led, 3-0.

Jason Ruff spoiled the Quad City shutout, scoring on a power play goal 62 seconds into the 3rd period. That was all she wrote, however, and the Mallards held on to win, 3-1.

The only other excitement was a skirmish between Kansas City's Derek Kern and Standish. Kern got 5 minutes for fighting, while Standish picked up the 5 minute fighting major as well as 2 minutes for instigating and a 10 minute misconduct as well.

The Outlaws return to Kemper Arena for a Tuesday night rematch with the Mallards. That game starts at 7:00 pm.
