Maxime Sparkles In Shutout and Shootout

February 27, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kansas City Outlaws News Release

One week after the Kansas City Outlaws imposed a 7-1 Kemper Arena thrashing on the Rockford IceHogs, the same teams met again, this time in the Rockford MetroCentre. On the surface, tonight's contest seemed to have little excitement. For an Outlaws fan, however, the game couldn't get much better. Kansas City netminder Maxime Gingras made Outlaw history, and the boys in black and burgundy won for the third time in a row, defeating the IceHogs in a shootout.

In terms of highlights, the 60 minutes of regulation didn't see many. There were no fights, and neither team scored a goal. IceHog goaltender Michel Robinson played solidly, stopping all 16 Kansas City shots. Meanwhile, Outlaw backstop Gingras stood on his head- kicking aside all 31 Rockford attempts in regulation. In the process, Maxime The Dream earned his first shutout as an Outlaw- and recorded the first shutout in team history.

Not much changed during the shootout. Gingras stopped every Rockford attempt- stifling Vince Malts, Jason Ralph, J. C. Ruid, and Rod Aldoff. After Robinson blanked Outlaws Jason Ruff and Jay Murphyk, Vaclav "Vinny" Zavoral finally broke the seal in the 3rd round. Mark Lee also slipped the puck past Robinson in the 4th round, guaranteeing the victory for Kansas City. Lee has now been successful on 5 of 7 shootout attempts. The Outlaws win this one by an official score of 1-0.

Tonight not only marks the 3rd consecutive Outlaw victory, but also the 3rd straight victory by shootout.

The good news continues, as Flint, Missouri and Richmond all lost today. Each of those teams are contending for the last two spots in the Colonial Cup playoffs, and with this victory Kansas City picks up 2 points on each team in that hunt.
