Hodge Recalls Stanley Cup Titles
February 27, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
When the Stanley Cup visits Tulsa next week, it'll be sort of a family reunion for Oilers center Brendon Hodge and head coach Dan Hodge.
Their father, Ken was a member of the Boston Bruin Stanley Cup championship teams in 1970 and 1972. In 1970, the Bruins swept the St. Louis Blues in four games, and in '72 beat the New York Rangers in a six game final.
"The two Cups had little bit of a different flavor to them," Hodge said. "Winning the first one in front of our home crowd and the first time for Boston in a long time (29 years) was really truly special. To have my parents in the crowd, and my oldest son (Ken Jr.) who was four or five at the time, part of the celebration in the locker room was something I'll always remember.
"In 1972 it was kind of bittersweet, because we had a chance to win it in Boston, but then had to go to New York and we were able to win in Madison Square Garden," Hodge said. "So the bitter part was that we couldn't have that same feeling of winning at home, but the tribute the fans paid us when we returned was tremendous."
The Oilers are teaming with U. S. Cellular to bring the Stanley Cup to Tulsa for a two day visit March 7-8. Fans will be able to view the NHL trophy 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7^th at the U.S. Cellular Store on 41^st St. and Sheridan and from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 8^th at the store at 71^st and Garnett. Oilers players and mascot Bladez along with U.S. Cellular mascot Celby will greet fans on both days. Fans will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with trophy and the Oilers players both days.
The Stanley Cup will then be on display at both Oilers home games (March 7^th against Amarillo and March 8^th against Wichita) that weekend.
Hodge says the trophy is one of a kind, and fans should take advantage of the opportunity to see the Stanley Cup.
"It's a tremendous trophy and you should treasure the chance to see it, because you never know if you'll ever get the chance again."
The Oilers play at Mississippi Friday at 7:05 p.m. and at Oklahoma City
Saturday at 7:35 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on KRVT AM 1270 and
