The last time the Bucks and Rayz met Laredo scored five-third period goals to clinch their fifth straight Southeast Division championship.

Laredo comes into tonight's game winning two straight games, and five of their last six to extend their lead in the Southern Conference to 10 points over Arizona and Odessa (73 to 63). Laredo, however, has lost their last two home games (0-1-1).

Last Saturday the Bucks won their fifth straight road game by defeating Rio Grande Valley 3-1. Laredo scored two goals in the first 1:19 of the third period, giving them nine goals in the their last three third periods combined.

Jeff Bes scored one of the Bucks third period goals, increasing his CHL-leading point total to 88 (39-49=88). Bes is three points ahead of Arizona's Alex Leavitt (28-57=85). With his next goal scored Bes will set a new career high with 40.

So far Alex Goupil has been a good addition to the team. The Bucks are 5-1 since acquiring the forward from Wichita on February 11th. In six games with Laredo Goupil has scored three goals, with four assists.

If the Rayz are going to make the playoffs they need to make a run now. Corpus comes into tonight five points behind Austin for the final playoff spot in the South, with 13 games remaining.

The Rayz have won just once in their last eight games (1-7-1), including dropping three straight. Just as much as the Bucks have been successful in the third period lately, the Rayz have been equally as bad in the final period. Corpus has given up nine goals in their last three third periods combined.

Joe Blaznek leads the Rayz in scoring with 48 points (18-30=48).

The Bucks and Rayz will conclude their season series Saturday at the LEC.

Laredo's homestand will continue this weekend when the Bucks host Texas and Corpus Christi. This Friday and Saturday fans are encouraged to arrive early so they can take advantage of $2.50 16-oz beers until the end of the first period. The 16-oz beers are sold near the main entrance on the concourse area.

Group tickets are available starting at $10, with individual tickets starting at $12.75. Call 718-BUCK (2825) to order.
