Austin Ice Bats News Release
(Austin, TX) - The Ice Bats' Dan Veenema made the challenge, RG Flath and Doug Groenestege upped the ante...then the Ice Bats cashed in for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
When it was decided the Ice Bats would wear pink jerseys and use pink sticks in order to try and raise money for the Komen Foundation, Dan Veenema challenged if the organization reached their $6000 goal, he would shave his head. After their Komen Night game vs. Corpus Christi, which the Bats won 3-1, RG Flath and Doug Groenestege said if the Bats reached $10,000 they would join Veenema in his efforts.
After it was all said and done the Austin Ice Bats reached their $10,000 goal and now on Saturday at 6:00 PM, before the Bats host the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at Chaparral Ice Arena, all three players will have their heads shaved in support of the Bats effort to raise funds for the Komen Foundation.
The gates will be opened earlier than usual (5:30 PM) so fans will have an opportunity to witness the clippings, and then the Bats will take to the ice in order to cut away at the Killer Bees as they make a push for their first playoff appearance in four years.
The Ice Bats are the AA Affiliate for the NHL's Minnesota Wild and the AHL's Houston Aeros (AAA). The team is currently playing its 12th season in Austin. Single game tickets and mini-plans are available by calling 512-927-7825 or visiting icebats.com.
