Ottawa 67's News Release

OTTAWA - Ottawa 67's Head Coach André Tourigny, as well as General Manager James Boyd, have both been selected by Hockey Canada to fill in important roles for them in the next year, Hockey Canada announced on Monday.

Tourigny was chosen to be the Men's Under-20 Team's Head Coach for the 2020-2021 World Junior Hockey Championship, which will be held in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta, next year from December 26th 2020 to January 5th 2021.

On his side of things, James Boyd has been selected to be a part of the management responsible for overseeing the Under-17 program ahead of the 2020 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, which will be held in Charlottetown and Summerside, Prince Edward Island next fall.

For Tourigny, this will be his seventh appearance with Hockey Canada. He was an assistant coach with the Under-18 program in 2008-2009, a Head Coach for the same program at the 2018-2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, in which Canada won gold. At the Under-20 level, Tourigny was an assistant coach at the 2009-2010, 2010-2011, 2012-2013 tournaments and most recently in 2019-2020. Tourigny is a two time silver medalist and once a gold medalist at the U-20 World Junior Hockey Championship, giving him an already impressive resume before even being chosen as Head Coach for next year's edition.

"It's an honor and a privilege to represent our country in our national sport. To do so on our own soil will make it even more special. I witnessed the passion and the pride of all Canadians that followed our recent success in Ostrava. It was magical. I look forward to getting together as a staff and laying the foundation for Team Canada at the 2021 World Junior Championship in Red Deer & Edmonton. My family and I are excited and very grateful for the opportunity.

This will be Boyd's first time representing Canada as a part of the Management Team. He represented the maple leaf twice in the past, but both times behind the bench as a coach. He was an assistant coach with the 2003-2004 edition, before being selected as a Head Coach for Team Ontario at the Under-17 level in 2004-2005.

"It is always a privilege and a great honor to work with our country's National Team. The U-17 program is very important as it is the first exposure that Canada's top players will have with Canada's Program of Excellence. I look forward to working with Hockey Canada's staff to create a positive environment and experience for our young athletes."

These two nominations speak levels to how much work these two men put in their craft and how much respect the Ottawa 67's brass has among the Canadian hockey world. These two international events being far away, these two men will be concentrating on this last upcoming stretch of the OHL regular season ahead of the playoffs coming up shortly. The 67's will be in action three times this week, as they will be on the road in Niagara on Thursday, before paying a visit to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday. Ottawa will round out their week at home on Sunday, when they host the Soo Greyhounds inside The Arena at TD Place at 2:00 PM.
