Hobson, Gindl Named 2016 All-Stars
October 13, 2016 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
Lancaster Barnstormers center fielder Caleb Gindl and first baseman K.C. Hobson have been named to the 2016 Atlantic League end-of-season All-Star Team, it was announced today by league officials.
In addition, Gindl was selected as one of the league's three best defensive outfielders on the Red, White and Blue all-defense squad.
Gindl, who spent much of the 2013 season in the Major Leagues with the Milwaukee Brewers, appeared in 135 games for the Barnstormers in 2016. He batted .295 with 10 homers and 72 RBI. The native of the Pensacola, FL area finished second in the league with 36 doubles. The lefty batter also finished in the league's top five in hits, total bases and walks. In August, Gindl tied the Lancaster franchise record with a 20-game hitting streak, batting .410 (34-83).
On the defensive side, Gindl, who moved from the corner outfield positions to center after Logan Schafer's contract was purchased by the Minnesota Twins in May and Travis Witherspoon was traded to York in June. He tied for the league lead with 15 outfield assists while committing only three errors on the season.
Gindl was also the Most Valuable Player of the 2016 Atlantic League All-Star Game, held at Lancaster's Clipper Magazine Stadium on July 13. He homered and threw out a runner at the plate in the contest.
Hobson joined his father's (manager Butch Hobson) team on June 3. Despite the late start, the left-handed batting first baseman finished fourth in the league in home runs with 24 and batting with .320. The former Toronto farmhand ended the season third in on base percentage and second in slugging percentage with an overall OPS of .964.
He homered in consecutive games on six different occasions and homered twice in a game in two different contests. Hobson connected 14 times in 30 games from August 13-September 2.
"Caleb had a heckuva year for us," said manager Butch Hobson. "And for K.C. to do what he did, coming in when he did and making the All-Star Team is just tremendous. I'm very proud of both of them."
