High Point-Thomasville HiToms News Release
GASTONIA, N.C. - After blowing a one run lead in the ninth, Thomasville scored four runs in the 10th inning to defeat the Gastonia Grizzles 6-2 and end the Grizzles three game winning on Sunday afternoon at Sims Legion Park in Gastonia.
Thomasville (9-9) loaded the bases in the 10th with no one out and scored their first run on a single over a drawn in infield. The game was really busted open by Patrick Koontz who tripled down the left field line to give the Tommies a 6-2 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Gastonia (9-9) tied the game in the last of the ninth to force free baseball as Justin Vasquez singled to start the inning before stealing second and moving to third on a wild pitch. Dylan Naisatka then laid down a perfect bunt to squeeze Vasquez home and tie the score at two.
Thomasville scored their runs in the third off Mike Heesch as Garrett Koster led off the inning with a bloop double down the line in left. After a bunt single by Brock Hebert put runners at the corners, Stephen Carmon and Jacob Rogers both delivered RBI's and gave the HiToms a 2-0 advantage.
Gastonia scored their only run of the game against Kyle Barbeck in the bottom of the third as Adam Hiller doubled to begin the inning and moved to third on a wild pitch before he was brought home on a groundout by Ryan Briley.
Barbeck failed to register in the decision for the HiToms but had a great outing going 6 1/3 innings scattering just three hits and allowing just one run.
Thomasville returns to action tomorrow night at 7:00 when they host the Gastonia Grizzles at historic Finch Field. It will be a bark in the park night as dogs will be permitted to come with their owners for the game tomorrow night.
