Lexington County Blowfish News Release

The Columbia Blowfish were beaten for the eighth straight time Sunday night, 8-4, at the hands of the Martinsville Mustangs. The Blowfish (4-13) have now lost 12 of their last 13.

Blake Forslund (0-2) took the loss in his second start for the Blowfish this season. He went three innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits while striking out three. First innings have been a problem for Forslund, who has allowed eight total runs in two first innings this season.

The Mustangs (8-10) got three runs in the first thanks in part to an error by shortstop Carlos Santana to lead off the game. The unearned run made it 15 of 17 games the Blowfish have allowed an unearned run to score. The Blowfish have also committed at least one error in 13 straight games.

Mustangs starter Tyler Carmen (2-1) allowed 11 hits, but the Blowfish were unable to get the big hits they needed as they scored four runs, all in the first inning, off the right hander.

With Columbia already down 3-0, Brison Celek stepped in with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first and hit a line drive to left field to score two runs and make it a one run game. Nick Abrahamson hit a seeing eye single through the right side to score Zach Smith and tie the game. With two outs an error by the second baseman Anthony Nunziato allowed Brison Celek to cross the plate and give Columbia a brief one-run lead.

The Mustangs would score two in the next inning and outscore Columbia 5-0 through the final eight innings. Chase Vergason was ejected in the bottom of the fourth when he tossed his bat after being called out on strikes. Catcher Joe Jackson was forced to play second base because he was the only position player remaining on the Blowfish bench.

The Blowfish failed to take advantage of five home games this week, dropping all of them. They head on the road to Fayetteville tomorrow, where they will play a double-header with the SwampDogs. The first game is a continuation of Saturday night's game, which was suspended due to weather in the fourth inning. Columbia will try to hold on to a 5-2 lead and snap the losing streak. They return to Capital City Stadium on Tuesday to host Florence.
