
HiToms even series with walk-off

THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Patrick Koontz clubbed a home run over the wall in right field to win the game as the HiToms avoided elimination with a 5-4 win over Gastonia on Friday night at historic Finch Field.
The HiToms (32-26) won the with one out in the 10th inning as Koontz fouled off two consecutive two strike pitches before he socked the home run off Derek Epps (L, 0-1) to win the game for the Tommies.
Gastonia (30-27) tied the game at four in the seventh inning when Dylan Nsiatka doubled to the gap in left center to score Dan Hennigan and tie the game.
Travis Tingle (W 1-0) worked a scoreless ninth and 10th innings to earn the win for the Tommies.
With the win tonight, the Tommies set up a do or die game three tomorrow night at Finch Field. First pitch is set for 7:00 and tickets are available online at www.hitoms.com or by phone at 336-472-8667.
The HiToms are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 15th season in 2011, the CPL features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
