
Hitmen Top Blades for First Win of the Season

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen wrapped up the weekend this afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome with their first win of the 2023-24 season, defeating the Saskatoon Blades 3-2.
Saskatoon scored the lone goal of the first period on the powerplay courtesy of Lukas Hansen. Carter Yakemchuk tied things up with his second of the season, unassisted, halfway through the second period. Keets Fawcett would follow up with his first Western Hockey League goal to give Calgary their first lead of the game. Jordan Keller put one past netminder Alex Garrett in the third for Saskatoon to tie the game at two. A late power play for Calgary was the deciding factor, with Oliver Tulk scoring his first of the season securing the win. Assists came from Carter Yakemchuk and Sean Tschigerl.
Tulk (1g) earned third star, while Yakemchuk (1g,1a) earned first star of the game. Alex Garrett made 27 saves in his first start and win as a Calgary Hitmen.
Calgary will open a 10-day road trip next weekend with a stop in Brandon against the Wheat Kings on Saturday, Oct. 7. The prairie swing will also take the Hitmen to Moose Jaw (Oct. 10), Regina (Oct. 11), Prince Albert (Oct. 13) and Saskatoon (Oct. 14). Calgary will then have one more road game in Lethbridge on Oct. 18 before finally returning to the Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday, Oct. 20 to host the Seattle Thunderbirds in a 7:00 p.m. start.
