November 15, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

The Tigers headed to Calgary on Sunday afternoon to finish off a weekend home and home series. The Hitmen came away with a 4-2 win in Medicine Hat the previous night. It didn't take the two teams long to renew the hostilities in a game that would feature 17 power plays between the two teams.

Calgary opened the scoring early for the second straight game. Zac Funk netted his fifth of the year only 3:29 into the first period. The Tigers got in to a bit of penalty trouble in the frame but they were able to kill off the three power play opportunities.

The Tigers started the second period on the power play and were able to capitalize on the man advantage only 31 seconds into the frame. Ashton Ferster found the back of the net to extend his goal scoring streak to three games. Corson Hopwo and Lukas Svejkovsky picked up the assists on the power play goal. The power play unit would get another chance almost immediately and quickly scored to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. The same line struck again with Svejkovsky scoring his team leading 8th of the year from Hopwo and Ferster. The lead wouldn't last long though as the team traded power play chances. 56 seconds later, Grayden Siepmann evened the game back up with his second of the year.

The Tigers' power play continued clicking in the third period. Corson Hopwo added to his game totals with his sixth of the year. Noah Danielson and Lukas Svejkovsky added to their season totals with the helpers. Calgary would tie up the game one more time late in the third. Sean Tschigerl's seventh of the season evened the score at 3-3 to send it to overtime.

The Tigers' penalty trouble continued into the extra frame. Despite their strong special teams play, the Hitmen would exploit the man advantage to seal the victory and take the extra point. Riley Fiddler-Schultz played the hero with his seventh of the season at 3:39 of overtime.

Garin Bjorklund (2-6-2-0) got the start in net for the Tigers. He had a busy night, saving 43 of the 47 shots he faced.
