Hitmen Primed For A Great Season

August 28, 2009 - All American Hockey League (AAHL)
Detroit Hitmen News Release

The free agent camp for the Detroit Hitmen wrapped up last weekend, and with the level of talent and determination, the Hitmen look to start the season strong. There is a lot of interest from local talent with a new team and new ownership. "We really have some good players coming here and trying out for the Hitmen which will make the final cuts difficult, but we look ready to compete this year," said coach Matt Wiedenhoeft. Sitting in the stands and watching the players scrimmage and fighting for a spot really displayed the high level of competition. Coach Wiedenhoeft also added, "The competition is fierce and everyone is fighting for a spot, and we are looking for those players who rise to the challenge."

There are certainly a handful of players who fit that description of rising to the challenge and facing the adversities that come with playing in the AAHL.

A standout in the free agent camp, Peter Pritchett, looked determined and prepared throughout camp. Even before Saturdays evening skate, he was doing endurance drills and looks to be right in the thick of things. There are a lot of players who have the ability to play at this level and this is a great challenge for coach Wiedenhoeft to select the best of the best.

Forwards John Parrish and Rick Turner also are playing very well to keep themselves in the mix. "It's a battle out there for those players and they only have a short period of time to display their talent," said Coach Wiedenhoeft. Talent and the desire to play on the team are clearly evident from the players from free agent camp.

For a new team to generate so much interest from the local talent base and also draw in players from surrounding cities and states is a key for the Hitmen's success. The Hitmen want to fill the arena every home game and the only way to do that consistently is to put a quality team on the ice. The turnout of players and leadership and poise of new coach and team owner, Matt Wiedenhoeft, the Hitmen are primed to be a very successful team.

The Hitmen did not need waste much time before they signed talented center Ryan Webb, forward Matt Mosley, and defensemen Dan Oleksy. They performed extremely well at camp and look to be valuable assets for the Hitmen.

It is going to be a fun and exciting season for the Detroit Hitmen. They are ready to compete and bring a new level of electrifying hockey for the fans. This is a great time for Hitmen enthusiasts.

The Hitmen have their single, flex-game, and season tickets on sale now. Take a look at www.detroithitmen.com for more details on the very affordable ticket prices.
