Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB- The Calgary Hitmen welcomed the Brandon Wheat Kings to the Scotiabank Saddledome for a Thanksgiving Day matinee. Despite outshooting the visitors 43-23 the Hitmen dropped the contest 3-2.
Brandon struck first on their first shot of the game with one from Rylen Roeserma. Like the rest of the game, it would prove to be a battle of special teams with the teams trading power plays throughout the first, but the score remained in favour of Brandon heading into the second period. Calgary finally cracked the scoreboard taking advantage of an early penalty to tie the game with one from David Adaszynski.
Brandon had an answer regaining the lead at 9:23 in the second from Edmonton Oilers prospect Jake Chiasson. Calgary started the final frame with a two man advantage but were unable to capitalize leaving the period scoreless. A power play goal from Nolan Ritchie gave Brandon a two goal lead at 10:37 into the third. Zac Funk found the back of the net unassisted with under three minutes to go putting Calgary within one, but the late push from Calgary wouldn't be enough as Brandon was able to hold on to the one goal lead to secure the win.
Zac Funk reached 100 career games in today's match. Ethan Buenaventura made 21 saves on the day while David Adaszynski earned third star.
Calgary will now get set for three straight games on the road with stops in Saskatoon (Sat. Oct. 15), Prince Albert (Sun. Oct. 16) and Red Deer (Wed. Oct. 19). The next Hitmen home game is not until Friday, Oct. 21 when Saskatoon makes a return visit to the Scotiabank Saddledome in a 7:00 p.m. start.
