Hitmen Defeat the Blades

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen moved into a tie with Saskatoon for the final WHL Eastern Conference Wild Card spot thanks to a 3-2 victory over the Blades on Sunday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Andrew Fyten, Vladislav Yeryomenko and Mark Kastelic all scored for the Hitmen who have now picked up at least a point in four consecutive games with three wins and an overtime loss.

Saskatoon bookended the scoring, striking first on a goal from Jesse Shynkaruk before Mason McCarty pulled the visitors to within one early in the third period.

Calgary carried the play most of the way, outshooting the Blades 37-18. They also hit a combined five posts and crossbars. Trevor Martin made 16 saves to earn the win while Logan Flodell recorded 34 saves in the loss for Saskatoon.

The Hitmen, 22-26-8-2, are back in the 'Dome on Wednesday, Feb. 22 for an 11:00 a.m. start against the Brandon Wheat Kings. It will be the first-ever BE BRAVE - Anti-Bullying Game powered by TELUS. The WHL match-up will see thousands of Calgary and area students learn about the importance of acceptance and bullying prevention from guest speakers, concourse displays and in-game activities. As part of the fun and educational experience, all those in attendance will hear personal stories of overcoming being a victim of bullying from:

Randy Chevrier, Calgary Stampeders alumnus and Dare to Care ambassador

Caroline Ouellette, Team Canada Olympian and CWHL Montreal Stars forward

BE BRAVE tickets are $12 (plus applicable fees). Calgary will then welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers on Feb. 24 at 7:00 p.m. before traveling to Red Deer for the start of a home-and-home set with the Rebels on Feb. 25.
