Hitmen Announce Don MacGillivray as Assistant Coach

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen today announced the hiring of Don MacGillivray as Assistant Coach. MacGillivray joins Head Coach Steve Hamilton and Assistant Coach Trent Cassan, along with Goaltending Coach Theodore Zubot to form the coaching staff for the 2023-24 Western Hockey League season.

"We are pleased to be able to add a coach like Don with such an extensive background to our coaching staff. His experience specifically within the WHL will be a great asset to our club." said Calgary Hitmen Vice President Mike Moore.

MacGillivray spent three seasons as the head coach for the Brandon Wheat Kings after serving as the assistant coach for the club from 2016-2020. MacGillivray brings an extensive coaching background behind the bench in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League with the Portage Terriers, Neepawa Natives, St. James Canadiens and the Winnipeg Blues. He also spent two seasons as Head Coach with the Prince Albert Raiders (WHL) as well as three seasons as the head coach of the University of Manitoba Bisons (CIS), where he was named Canada West Coach of the Year in 2008.
