New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - 16 hits and the pitching of Isaac Pavlik proved to be more than enough as New Jersey took the second game of their series against the Brockton Rox 10-6 at Yogi Berra Stadium.
Pavlik went eight effective innings, giving up five earned runs on 13 hits while striking out nine to pick up his sixth victory of the season. The workhorse threw 127 pitches to give the New Jersey bullpen a rest for the stretch run.
The Jackals did all their scoring in the first two frames, putting up four in the first and six in the second to coast to their 43rd win of the year.
Benji Gil's RBI double got the home side on the board, and RBI singles by Francisco Lebron, Matt Hagen and Horace Lawrence rounded out the opening inning.
Matt Hagen provided the big blow in the second, smashing a three-run homerun off the top of the scoreboard to make the score 9-1. Not to be outdone, Horace Lawrence stepped up next and clubbed a solo shot to right field to close out the scoring.
Brockton did make things interesting with one in the eighth and two in the ninth, but reliever Randy Rapp shut things down with a solid relief appearance.
Lawrence was a star at the plate for the Jackals, going 4-for-4 with 2 RBI. Hagen finished the night 2-for-4 with 4 RBI, and Steve Checksfield and Ricardo Cordova had three hits apiece.
For the Rox, Eddie Gerald was a homerun away from the cycle, going 3-for-5 with 2 RBI, a double and a triple. Chris Zacuto hit his 10th homerun of the year for Brockton.
