FORT MYERS, FL (August 25, 2009) - The Minnesota Twins announced today that Fort Myers Miracle pitcher Steve Hirschfeld has been named the organization's Player of the Week for the period of August 16-22.
The 6-foot-5 right-hander shutout Charlotte, over seven innings, in his most recent outing on Friday, August 21. He pitched 13 1/3 innings last week allowing only three earned runs and posting 10 strikeouts. The 23-year-old is 7-5 with a 2.01 ERA (2nd overall in FSL) this season for the Miracle. Opponents are only hitting .211 of the San Diego State University product.
He will try for his fourth straight win, in his next start on Friday, August 28 when the Miracle host the Jupiter Hammerheads.
The Moab, Utah resident was a 9th round pick by the Twins in the 2007 MLB Draft. He led Single-A Beloit with 10 wins last year and has been named to two straight league All-Star Games (2008/Midwest-2009/Florida State).
