Northern Colorado Owlz News Release
Wade Hinkle belted his 14th home run of the year and Wendell Soto finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the Owlz 10-5 win on Sunday afternoon at Kindrick Legion Field.
The Owlz offense continued its hot hitting ways during its first early afternoon game, pounding out 13 hits and scoring 10 runs. The 10 runs equals the total that Orem had in its four games in Great Falls.
Orem did not waste any time getting on the board, as Joel Capote singled, Wendell Soto doubled him in and Hinkle blasted his 14th home run of the year. The offense went on to dominate the middle innings, scoring at least one run in innings four through seven.
Sherman Johnson had a nice day at the plate, reaching in four of his five at-bats, going 3-for-4 with three singles and one RBI.
On the mound, the Owlz got very nice performances by Mark Sappington, Aaron Newcomb, Jake Boyd and Austin Adams. Sappington surrendered two runs, one earned in 2.1 innings. Newcomb picked up his third win of the season, going a season-high 3.1 innings, while surrendering just two runs. Jake Boyd threw 2.1 scoreless innings and Austin Adams allowed a solo home run in the 9th, but struck out the side.
Orem is in sole possession of first place in the division and will go for the series sweep on Monday evening.
