Joel Capote broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the 8th inning with a RBI single and Wendell Soto had three RBIs, including a huge two-run single in the 8th, in an 8-7 Owlz victory on Saturday evening at Kindrick Legion Field.

Orem's defense struggled tonight, committing four errors, but Michael Morin was fantastic in his 1.2 innings and Capote made a game-saving catch in the 8th, robbing Chris McFarland of extra bases with two outs.

Helena got on the board first thanks to an error by Michael Snyder that allowed McFarland to reach. He scored on a wild pitch thrown by Gabriel Perez. Perez was untouchable for five innings, allowing just one hit, but he struggled with his command in the 6th inning, hitting two batters, walking one and surrendering two hits. He received the no decision.

Orem scored five unanswered runs on back-to-back RBI extra-base hits by Soto and Hinkle in the 3rd, a RBI double from Capote in the 5th and a two-run double by Ray in the 6th. Capote finished 2-for-5, while Soto finished 3-for-5. Helena tied the game up in the 6th with four runs, but Orem took the lead back in the 8th thanks to Capote and Soto's RBI hits.

Christopher O'Grady threw one inning for the win, while Morin fired 1.2 scoreless innings for the save.

Orem is still tied for first place with Grand Junction and will take on the Brewers in game two of the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
