
Hillsboro Takes Series, Beats Boise 5-2

Boise Hawks News Release
The Boise Hawks (22-19) fell to the Hillsboro Hops (26-15) by a final score of 5-2 on Thursday night. The Hawks left eight men-on-base for the game.
Hillsboro scored the games first runs. In the 1st inning, Tra Holmes led the game off with a single. Jose Caballero was the next batter, and he took Hawks starter Jeffri Ocando deep. A two-run home run made it a 2-0 Hillsboro lead.
The Hops got another run later in the frame. Keshawn Lynch delivered an RBI-single to score Andy Yerzy from 2nd base to give Hillsboro a 3-0 advantage.
The Hawks response came in the 3rd inning. Back-to-back-to-back singles for Cole Anderson and Matt Hearn got men aboard. Terrin Vavra came up and singled scoring Anderson to make it a 3-1 game.
With Hearn on 3rd base in the 3rd, Danny Edgeworth grounded out to second-base and it scored the run to get the Hawks a little closer. They trailed 3-2 after three innings.
Hawks starter Jeffri Ocando gave Boise five innings of baseball allowing three runs while striking-out seven.
Miguel Ausua came on for Boise in the 6th inning. After a four-pitch walk to Jake McCarthy, Keshawn Lynch doubled and there was runners on second and third for the Hops. Terrence Connelly grounded out to second-base, scoring Jake McCarthy from third to make it a 4-2 Hillsboro lead.
With Lynch moving up to third on the ground-out, Jorge Perez got a bunt down on a suicide squeeze to score the runner from third-base and Hillsboro took a 5-2 lead. Ausua finished going just one inning allowing two runs.
Shelby Lackey came out of the Hawks bullpen and threw two innings of shutout baseball. In Lackey's last six appearances, he has gone two innings in each one, without allowing a run. The Hawks still trailed going to the 9th inning at 5-2.
Boise stranded eight men on base for the game and couldn't get anything going in the 9th as the Hawks fell 5-2. Jeffri Ocando gets the loss for Boise, while Kenny Hernandez picks up the win for Hillsboro. Boise goes to 22-19 overall and 1-2 in the second-half. Hillsboro goes to 26-15 and 2-1 in the second-half.
The Hawks will return home tomorrow, Friday, July 27th at 7:15 p.m. to take on the Tri-City Dust Devils. Friday will be the Youth Soccer Ball Giveaway presented by Pepsi. The first 1,000 kids 12-and-under will receive a soccer ball.
