Early Home Runs Not Enough
July 27, 2018 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
Despite hitting two home runs the Tri-City Dust Devils (0-3, 18-23) could not come away with the win on Thursday night as the team fell 5-3 to the Spokane Indians (3-0, 19-22). Justin Paulsen and Tre Carter each had homers in the loss for Tri-City.
Starting pitcher Omar Cruz once again impressed in his second outing with the Dust Devils. The 19-year-old southpaw had eight strikeouts and only allowed one run in 4.2 innings of work. The game turned in Spokane's favor when the Indians broke a tie in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring two runs off of Tri-City reliever Wen-Hua Sung. The Dust Devils were able to get two runners aboard in the top of the ninth inning, but were ultimately unable to overcome the deficit.
The road trip will continue for the team on Friday night. Tri-City will be in Boise to start the five-game series with the Hawks. The Dust Devils will send right-hander Angel Acevedo to the mound in the series opener. First pitch from Memorial Stadium will be at 6:15 pm. The team will return home on August 1st to begin a five-game series against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. It will be Hero Night presented by Pita Pit. Great seats are available by calling the Dust Devils' front office at (509) 544-8789 or by going to www.dustdevilsbaseball.com to purchase tickets.
