Hillsboro Hangs on to Beat Boise 6-5

The Boise Hawks (7-7) fell to the Hillsboro Hops (8-6) on Thursday night by a final of 6-5 at Memorial Stadium. Boise trailed 5-1 and scored four in the fifth to tie the game but Hillsboro got one in the 8th to get the win.

Boise got on the board first for the second night in a row. Luke Morgan led off the bottom of the first with a single to right, and after stealing a base and getting to third on a wild pitch, Luis Castro had an RBI groundout to the right side of the diamond scoring Morgan. The Hawks led 1-0 after one inning.

Hillsboro responded though in the second as Andy Yerzy led off the inning with a double. Joey Rose walked, and after an error on a Jake McCarthy groundball, Hillsboro had the bases loaded.

The Hops got a sacrifice fly from Ryan Tufts scoring Yerzy and allowing Rose to tag up to third and the Hops led 1-0. It was Dan Swain with a sacrifice fly of his own to score Yerzy immediately after making it 2-1 Hillsboro.

In the 3rd, Jose Caballero bunted for a hit and then Hillsboro's Joey Rose doubled to score Caballero extending the lead to 3-1 for the Hops.

With Boise starter Jeffri Ocando still in the game in the fourth, the Hops got a two run homerun from the nine hitter Keshawn Lynch, and it was 5-1 Hops.

Boise starter Jeffri Ocando gave the Hawks five innings allowing five earned runs and four total runs.

The Hawks bats came alive in the fifth. With Boise trailing 5-1, LJ Hatch was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Aubrey McCarty doubled to score Hatch making it 5-2. After an error on the third baseman Caballero on a groundball by McDowell, McCarty was on third and McDowell got to second.

The big hit came as Luke Morgan ripped a one out knock to center field and with the centerfield Jake McCarthy diving for the ball, it got by him and Morgan had a triple knocking in two runs making it just a 5-4 Hillsboro lead.

With new pitcher Trevor McKenna coming into the game for the Hops, he threw a wild pitch and Boise tied the game up at five as Luke Morgan scored from third.

Shelby Lackey took over for Ocando and threw two innings of shutout baseball for the Hawks.

PJ Poulin entered the game for Boise in the 8th and it was a bunt hit to start off the inning as Jake McCarthy got to first. After a wild pitch allowed McCarthy to get to second, PJ Poulin had McCarthy picked off as he took off for third, but the throw from Poulin to Edgeworth got away from Boise's third baseman and McCarthy took two bags to score and give Hillsboro a 6-5 lead. The error coming on Edgeworth.Mc

The Hawks couldn't score in the 8th or 9th and Hillsboro gets the win. Brian Christian was the winning pitcher for Hillsboro while PJ Poulin gets the loss. Wesley Rodrgiuez gets the save.

The Hawks will head to Tri-City to play the Dust Devils for five games starting tomorrow.
