Frederick Keys News Release
Lynchburg jumped on the scoreboard in the second. With LHP Nate Nery on the hill for Frederick, Hillcats' RF Miles Durham tripled to right field. He was knocked in by Jared Keel to give the Hillcats an early lead. The next batter, DH Kent Sakamoto was hit by a pitch. 2B Ray Chang drove in Keel and Sakamoto with a two-run double, making it a 3-0 lead.
The next batter, SS Jordy Mercer, singled to center. Chang tried to score from second but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. Following the play, Nery was ejected from the game by home plate umpire Brent Rice.
LHP Chris Salberg came into the game in Nery's spot. The Hillcats were able to load the bases to start the third. C Kris Watts knocked in a run on a groundball fielder's choice. Then, Keel drove in another run on a ground out to third. With one on and two down, Sakamoto drilled a two-run homer to make it a 7-0 Lynchburg lead.
The Keys mounted a comeback, however, in the bottom of the third inning. Frederick sent ten batters to the plate and score six runs on just five hits. The big blows were a two-run double by SS Pedro Florimon, and a three-run homer to right by Caleb Joseph.
Frederick had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, as they loaded the bases with one man down. Lynchburg RHP Michael Colla got 2B Bobby Stevens and DH Jedidiah Stephen to both pop out, ending the threat.
The rain was falling all night. The tarp was pulled onto the field in the middle of the sixth inning. The game never resumed.
Colla got the win. He's now 4-0. Nery took the loss, dropping his record to 0-3.
Because the game was official and not rained out, ticket's to Wednesday night's game will NOT be good for any Monday through Thursday home game.
The Keys welcome the Salem Red Sox to town Thursday night to begin a four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. It's Super Hero Night at the ballpark. For more information contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
