LYNCHBURG HILLCATS (25-38, 54-79) vs. FREDERICK KEYS (27-37, 61-73)

August 26th, 2008 -- 7:05 PM

Calvin Falwell Field @ Lynchburg City Stadium

RHP Brad Lincoln (1-4, 4.86) vs. RHP Brandon Erbe (9-12, 4.51)

THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg dropped game one of a three-game series with Frederick 5-0 last night at City Stadium...The Hillcats had won three straight games and five out of their last six...Those six games were all on the Cats previous road trip, their final road games of the season...Tonight is the middle-game game of the series with the Keys and game two of a seven-game homestand, which are the last games of the 2008 regular season for the Green & Gold...

VS. FREDERICK: The Keys are 11-7 against the Hillcats this season and are 4-3 at City Stadium...Last year the Hillcats dominated the series with the Keys, winning 15 out of 20 games in 2007, including seven out of the ten in Lynchburg...The Cats have the all-time advantage 144-129, and are 75-63 in the Hill City...Last night's win for the Keys secured an over .500 record against the Hillcats this season...

ONE-HIT BLANKING: The Keys shutout the Hillcats last night and held them to just one hit...It was the eleventh time this season Lynchburg has been shutout and the first time they have been held to one hit...Frederick threw a combined no-hitter on August 5th versus Salem and on Sunday night they no-hit the Avalanche for the first seven innings at Salem...

DISAPPEARING DEFENSE: Last night Lynchburg committed a season-high five errors in their 5-0 defeat...They committed four of the errors in the first three innings and three of them came in the third...Prior to last night, the Hillcats had committed four errors in a game just once....On their recent six-game road trip the Hillcats committed just two errors...When they went error less in the first three games of that trip at Frederick it marked the first time all season the Cats had gone three consecutive games without an error...The Cats .969 fielding percentage and 124 errors both rank 7th in the Carolina League...

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: LF Jared Keel was named the Carolina League Player of the Week yesterday for the week of August 18th-24th...Over that span the outfielder went 9-for-22 (.409) with two doubles, four home runs, nine RBI, eight runs, five walks and two stolen bases...His slugging percentage was 1.045 over that span...Last Saturday night was his second multi-homer game of the season, the fifth of his career and it was the fifth time this season a Hillcat has accomplished the feat...Keel now has 19 home runs which passes Jamie Romak for the most by a Hillcat this year, ties him for third in the league and gives him three more home runs than his previous career-high of 16 long balls last season (which ranked fourth among Pirate farmhands)...This is the third time this season a Hillcat has received a Player of the Week award...OF Jamie Romak (May 26th-June 1st) also received Player of the Week honors and LHP Brian Holliday (July 7th-13th) was named Pitcher of the Week...

PROSPECT PAIRING...AGAIN: Tonight's starting pitching match-up features a top ten prospects within both organizations...RHP Brad Lincoln gets the nod for Lynchburg and was rated as the number four overall prospect in the Pirates system prior to the season according to Baseball America, and RHP Brandon Erbe is slated to start for Frederick, the number ten overall prospect in the Baltimore Orioles organization...The two met last week in Frederick and the match-up lived up to the billing...Lincoln allowed just one run and struck out seven in six innings of work...Erbe got the better of the battle though, as he tossed six scoreless frames...Neither pitcher factored in the decision as the Keys would eventually win 2-1 in 10 innings...

STREAKING TO A HALT: INF Jose De Los Santos and 1B Kent Sakamoto both had their hit streaks stopped last night...De Los Santos had gone 13-for-34 (.382) with a double, a triple, five runs scored and three RBI during his eight-game streak...1B Kent Sakamoto was 12-for-27 (.444) with three doubles, a homer, eight runs scored and three RBI over his seven-game streak...SS Brian Friday, who had his seven game streak snapped Sunday night, had the only hit for the Cats in their loss last night...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Brandon Erbe was selected by the Orioles in the third round of the 2005 draft out of McDonogh high school in Baltimore...He made his professional debut in 2005 with Bluefield (Rookie) and went 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA in 11 games (three starts)...While there he struck out 48 in 23 and 1/3 innings...He ended the season with Short Season Low-A Aberdeen and posted a 1-1 mark with a 7.71 ERA in three games (one start)...In 2006 he advanced to Low-A Delmarva and had a 5-9 mark with a 3.22 ERA in 28 games (27 starts)...With the Shorebirds Erbe struck out 133 men in 114 and 2/3 innings of action...Last season he made his Advanced-A debut with Frederick at just 19 years of age and went 6-8 with a 6.26 ERA...The right hander returned to the Keys this season and has gone 9-12 with a 4.51 ERA in 27 starts...He threw six innings of no-hit baseball in a combined no-hitter against Salem on August 5th at Harry Grove Stadium...Erbe has gone 2-0 with a 0.55 ERA in three starts against the Hillcats in his career (all this season and has allowed one earned run in 16 and 1/3 innings)...
