Right-Hander Throws Seven Shutout Innings, Amador Hits Grand Slam in Win

For the the fourth night in a row, the Frederick Keys got a great pitching performance. This time it was right-hander Brandon Erbe. He threw seven shutout innings, and struck out nine as the Keys defeated the Lynchburg Hillcats 7-3.

Erbe got run support early. In the top of the first, Brandon Snyder hit a two-out double. He was driven in on a Brandon Tripp double to give Frederick a 1-0 lead.

In the second, Chris Amador led things off with a double. He got to third when Billy Rowell singled, and scored on a Justin Johnson groundball out to extend the Keys lead to two.

Frederick was able to break the game wide open in the fifth. With one man out, Miguel Abreu scorched a groundball down the third base line. Danny Bomback made a great diving stop, but his throw to first was high, allowing Abreu to reach second. Brandon Snyder knocked him in with an RBI-single, making it a 3-0 lead.

The Keys weren't done. Chris Vinyard walked. Then Brandon Tripp hit a sharp grounder to the right side. Second baseman Jose De Los Santos made a great diving grab, but made a wild toss to first to extend the inning. With the bases loaded, Amador drilled a grand slam homerun to give the Keys a 7-0 lead.

Erbe didn't allow a hit in the ball game until the fifth, when Chris Jones singled. It was the third night in a row the Keys carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning.

Brian Parker came into the game to relieve Erbe in the eighth. He surrendered three runs (two earned) on three hits to get the Hillcats on the scoreboard. Jeff Moore came in to pitch the ninth, loading the bases but working out of it without allowing a run.

Erbe got the win, his tenth of the season. Brad Lincoln took the loss. He surrendered three runs, two earned, in 4.2 innings. His record drops to 1-5.

Frederick and Lynchburg will meet in the finale of this three-game set tomorrow at City Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.

The Keys return to Frederick on Friday to open their final series of the season, a four-game set against the Winston-Salem Warthogs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. Fireworks will follow the game. For ticket information, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
