Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Lynchburg, VA- Wednesday night's game saw five home runs fly out of Calvin Falwell Field. While one came off the bat of Adam Milligan, unforunately for the Hillcats the other four were by Winston-Salem, and Lynchburg lost 9-5.
Winston-Salem jumped out to a big lead early in the game. They scored five runs in the second inning off of Hillcats starter Willie Kempf. The big blow in the inning came from Jared Mitchell, who hit a three-run home run to center field.
The Dash scored two more runs in the third inning. They received solo home runs from Andy Wilkins and Luis Sierra to go ahead 7-0.
The Hillcats made it a game in the bottom of the third. LV Ware was hit by a pitch with one out. Keenan Wiley doubled to center, and Ware advanced to third. Kyle Davis walked, and Andrelton Simmons hit a sacrifice fly to score Ware and break the shutout. Adam Milligan followed Simmons with a three-run home run to left field, and the seven run lead was cut to 7-4.
Blaine Sims came into the game for the Hillcats in the fourth, and pitched four shutout innings in relief.
Lynchburg cut into the lead even further in the eighth. Simmons led off with a single. Two batters later, Joey Terdoslavich doubled off the wall in left-center, and Simmons scored all the way from first to make the game 7-5.
A fourth home run from Winston-Salem in the top of the ninth, a two-run shot from Tyler Saladino, made the score 9-5, which held up as the final score. The four home runs were the most the Hillcats have given up this year.
Kempf (2-3) took the loss, and Cameron Bayne worked five innings for Winston-Salem to get the win move to 4-3. Santos Rodriguez pitched the eighth and ninth to record his second save.
The Hillcats saw their three-game winning streak snapped, and fell to 17-27. Winston-Salem improved to 20-26.
The Hillcats have a day off on Thursday before heading out on the road to Potomac to play four games in three days. The doubleheader on Saturday is occurring to make up for the game lost on April 8. Game one on Friday is scheduled for a 7:05 first pitch.
