May 25, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

LHP Drake Britton (1-4, 6.61) at RHP Barret Loux (3-3, 3.89)

NEED TO TURN IT AROUND: Last night's loss to Salem, along with the three-game weekend sweep in Wilmington, have given the Pelicans their first four-game losing streak of the season. Their last win was Thursday night in Winston-Salem, when Barret Loux pitched a gem to give the Birds a series victory. Now the Pelicans turn to Loux again to put them back in the win column and back in sole possession of first place.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!: Pelicans right fielder Jared Prince turns 25 today and he's swinging the bat very well of late. The Kingston, WA native is batting .350 (21-60) over his last 20 games with a .459 on base percentage. After hitting just .139 (10-72) in his first 19 games, he has raised his season average to .230. The former Washington State Cougar his been a mainstay as the everyday right fielder as well as in the lineup in the six or seven spot.

ROB-BED OF A WIN: Left-hander Robbie Erlin pitched another solid game last night, but was dealt a loss despite giving up just one earned run in six innings. Erlin lowered his ERA to 2.14, still fifth in the Carolina League. With six strikeouts he passed teammate Joe Wieland for the league lead in that category with 62. Robbie's still way ahead of the pack in both WHIP (0.55, Wieland 2nd at 0.88) and opponent batting average (.132, Brett Brach of Kinston ranks second with .178). He's been terrific in both of his losses, both against Salem. Combining last night with his May 6 start in Salem, the southpaw has allowed three runs, two earned on six hits in 13 innings. He's whiffed 14 without walking a batter.
