Hillcats Bested by Strong Pitching, Can't Sweep

May 6, 2010 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Cody Puckett had three hits including two doubles, but the Cats couldn't score and fell to the Indians 2-0.

It was the first shutout for the Hillcats offense this season, and the K-Tribe avoided the first 4-game sweep between the two teams at City Stadium since 1997.

For the third straight game the Hillcats couldn't muster any offense through the first six innings. Lynchburg scored three in the seventh two nights ago before the ninth inning rally. Last night, the Cats scored all three runs in the ninth.

Donnie Webb provided the only offense of the game for the Indians. He homered twice, in the first and fourth off Hillcats starter Scott Carroll. Overall, Carroll was solid. He threw a season-long seven innings, gave up only two earned runs and four hits. It was a personal and team season-long.

T.J. McFarland picked up the win in relief. He threw five scoreless innings after start Nick Hagadone struck out six in four innings.

Lynchburg welcomes Myrtle Beach to City Stadium for the first time this season tomorrow night at 6:05. The first 1,000 fans into the ballpark will receive replica 2009 Championship Rings presented by Express Lane. The Hillcats bring righty Curtis Partch (1-2, 3.32 ERA) to the mound against Pelicans righty J.J. Hoover (0-2, 6.46).
