Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - Winnipeg Goldeyes' outfielder Tyler Hill has been named the American Association's Batter of the Week for July 22nd-28th.

In five games last week - all of which were Goldeyes' victories - Hill was 9-for-17 (.529) with five runs scored, three doubles, one triple, seven RBI, four walks, and two stolen bases. The Wilmington, Delaware native doubled home what proved to be the winning runs in Saturday's 11-3 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

Since joining the Goldeyes in June, Hill is batting .378 in 31 games with 25 runs, 17 extra-base hits, 21RBI, 16 walks, and 11 stolen bases. The 23-year-old rattled off an 18-game hitting streak from June 30th through July 18th, and is just 29 plate appearances short of qualifying for first place in the American Association batting race.

Hill was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 19th round in2014 out of the Delaware Military Academy in his hometown of Wilmington. Hill played five seasons in the Red Sox' farm system, reaching the High-A Carolina League last season with the Salem Red Sox. This past off-season, Hill was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the minor league phase of the Rule V Draft. The Tigers subsequently traded Hill to the New York Yankees where he appeared in 51 games earlier this season for the High-A Florida State League's Tampa Tarpons.

Hill's selection marks the Goldeyes' second weekly award of the season. Infielder Kevin Lachance was named Batter of the Week from May 16th-19th.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes open a three-game series against the Gary SouthShore RailCats at US Steel Yard on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. All the action can be heard locally on 93.7 FM CJNU and worldwide at www.cjnu.ca
