Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins and Manchester Monarchs played Game 3 of their best-of-seven Atlantic Division Semifinals series on Monday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence, with the Bruins jumping out to a 5-1 lead through two periods, on the way to a 6-3 victory. The Providence special teams played a key role in the win, scoring three power play goals and one shorthanded. The six goals scored were the most by a Bruins team in the playoffs since May 2, 2000, a 6-3 win over the Lowell Lock Monsters in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. With Monday's victory, the Bruins hold a 2-1 lead in the series, which continues in Providence with Game 4 on Wednesday, April 27 at 7:05 p.m.
Bruin left wing Andy Hilbert tied a franchise record for most points in a playoff game, posting two goals and two assists. The last Bruin to have a four-point night in a playoff game was Brandon Smith (0-4-4) on May 2, 2000. Right wing Pat Leahy scored his second playoff goal, while left wing Martin Samuelsson and center Keith Aucoin each tallied his first goal of the playoffs. Bruin blueliner Kevin Dallman added his second of the postseason. Leahy's goal was shorthanded, while Hilbert, Aucoin and Dallman all scored power play goals. Aucoin's goal stood up as the game-winner.
Hilbert, who leads the team with 3-3-6 totals in three games, is one of four Bruins to have points in all three games in the series. Leahy (2-2-4), Dallman (2-1-3) and center Ben Guite (1-2-3) have also been on the scoreboard in all three contests.
Providence goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 27 shots to improve his record to 2-1.
Following Wednesday's Game 4, the Bruins and Monarchs will face off in Game 5 in Manchester on Thursday, April 28 at 7:05 p.m. The Bruins will host Game 6, if necessary, on Saturday, April 30 at 7:05 p.m. Should a deciding Game 7 be necessary, it will be played in Manchester on Monday, May 2 at 7:05 p.m. Round 1 of the Calder Cup Playoffs is sponsored by Dunkin' Donuts, The Martone Group and National City Mortgage.
