Game Highlights
Quarter 1: Highlanders 24, Edge 24
The Highlanders came into Monday nights game on a 3-game losing skid. Cape Breton came out with a hot start, going up 11-4 early. The Edge responded well, and brought the game back to even. Highlanders guard Bruce Massey put up 12 of his team's 24 in the quarter. The quarter ended deadlocked at 24 apiece.
Quarter 2: Highlanders 43, Edge 45
The second quarter was very similar to the first, with both teams trading baskets. No team was able to distance themselves from the other, which made each possession crucial. Cape Breton's Jamal Reynolds led the way by putting up 12 points in the quarter for the Highlanders. Both teams' shooting efficiency dropped, and the Edge went into halftime with a 2-point lead.
Quarter 3: Highlanders 69, Edge 76
The second half began the same way the first one ended, as both teams were exchanging buckets and looking to spark a run. As the quarter went by, St. John's slowly added to their lead. Highlanders struggled to find secondary scoring behind Bruce Massey, who ended the quarter at 27 points. The Edge led by 7 going into the final quarter, but it was still anyone's game.
Quarter 4: Highlanders 100, Edge 105
Cape Breton came out aggressive and brought the game back to even early in the quarter. Cape Breton and Saint John's were both making big shots, trying to get the lead, but the score was tied with just 2 minutes to go. In the end, the Edge's offensive weapons were too much for the Highlanders defense, and they won by a score of 105-100. The Highlanders will look to end their current 4-game losing streak when they go on the road to visit the Sudbury Five on Saturday, February 9th 2019.
