Hickory slips past Drive 9-8 in 10 innings

Greenville, SC -Matt Cavagnaro's ground out to third base in the top of the 10th inning scored Keanon Simon to give Hickory a 9-8 win over Greenville in a three-hour, fifty minute game played at Fluor Field on Monday. With the win the Crawdads won two of three games in the three-game set against Greenville.

Keanon Simon and Ronald Pena greeted Drive relief pitcher Joseph Guerra with back to back walks to lead off the 10th inning. Bobby Spain then laid down a sacrifice bunt to third base moving Simon and Pena to second and third base. Cavagnaro's ground out to third allowed Simon to cross the plate for the eventual winning run.

Tom Boleska picked up the victory in relief for Hickory. Boleska hurled three innings and allowed just one hit. He walked two and struck out five to raise his season record to 2-1. Joseph Guerra shouldered the loss for the Drive, giving up one hit, two walks and one run in his one inning of work. Guerra is now 0-2 on the season.

Mike Jones led the Greenville offensive attack with three hits (all doubles) and four RBIs on four at bats. Jones has now hit safely in a franchise best 19 games. Drive catcher Ty Weeden posted an impressive night at the plate with two hits (one home run and one single) and four RBIs.

Hickory catcher Ronald Pena paced the Crawdad offensive attack with a home run, triple, two runs scored and three RBIs. Joe De Los Santos added three hits in six at bats with one run scored and one RBI.

The Drive now travel to Rome for a four-game series with the Braves before returning home on Saturday, May 3rd when they take on Columbus. The May 3rd game against Columbus will start an eight-game home stand at Fluor Field.
