Columbus Catfish News Release

Columbus, GA- The Columbus Catfish proudly announce May 18th will be 75th Ranger Regiment Day as they take on the Augusta GreenJackets. Staff Sergeant Shayne Cherry and Staff Sergeant Michael Broussard, winners of the 2008 Best Ranger Competition, will throw out honorary first pitches prior to the game.

Staff Sergeants Cherry and Broussard beat out 28 other teams of Rangers in a 60 hour competition to take the crown as the United States' top Army Rangers. Of the 28 teams, which started the 2008 Best Ranger Competition, only 16 finished. The three-day Best Ranger Competition was established in 1982 and has been compared to Ironman and Eco-Challenge competitions.

The competition challenges two-man Ranger teams in events that test their physical conditioning, Ranger skills and team strategies. The events are purposely scheduled back-to-back and around the clock for 60 hours, allowing little time for rest and meals.

All competitors are Ranger-qualified, successful graduates of Fort Benning's Ranger School.

The Columbus Catfish have invited the entire 75th Ranger Regiment out of Fort Benning, almost 1,000 Rangers, to attend May 18th's game along with their families.

Tickets may be purchased by calling (706) 571-8866 or by ordering online at www.columbuscatfish.com. The Golden Park ticket office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Catfish are the Class-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
