Altoona Curve News Release

READING- Yoslan Herrera turned in six strong innings and helped out at the plate with a key fourth-inning RBI single as the Altoona Curve defeated the Reading Phillies, 5-2, Saturday evening before a packed crowd of 7,795 at Reading's FirstEnergy Stadium.

Altoona (14-21) evened the four-game series at one game apiece with the win, while Reading (16-19) lost for the fourth time in five games.

Herrera (2-3) outdueled Reading ace and Philadelphia Phillies' top-rated prospect Carlos Carrasco on the mound, allowing only one run over his six innings of work to pick up the victory, but his fourth-inning RBI single, which followed a Milver Reyes run-scoring single, gave the Curve a 3-1 advantage. The 27-year old native of Cuba scattered seven hits over his six innings, walking one and striking out two to earn his first win since April 17 vs. Erie.

The Curve padded their lead in the fifth and seventh innings on solo home runs by Jason Delaney and Jonel Pacheco -- the fourth of the season for both batters. Delaney was not retired in four plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks to extend his current on-base streak to 22 games.

Kyle Pearson and Chris Hernandez protected the Curve lead over the final three innings to close out the victory. Hernandez recorded the final four outs to earn his third save of the season.

Carrasco (3-3), who was coming off a seven scorless inning effort in his last start on Monday against Binghamton, was charged with the loss for Reading. The 21-year old right-hander allowed five runs and seven hits over seven innings.

Altoona scored its first run of the game in the top of the first inning on a Brad Corley bloop single, which scored Melvin Dorta from second. The run ended a string of 19 consecutive scoreless innings for the Curve offense. Altoona had been shut out in two straight games -- Thursday at Akron and Friday against the Phillies.

The Curve and Phillies will play the third game of their four-game series Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. Altoona will send right-hander Josh Hill (6-2, 2.25) to the mound against R-Phils righty Andrew Carpenter (1-4, 5.25). Curve fans can catch every pitch by tuning in to flagship station Real Oldies 93.5 WHPA and the Curve Radio Network starting at 12:50 with the Curve GameDay Show.
