Harrisburg Senators News Release

After stealing a win from the Erie SeaWolves on Friday, the Harrisburg Senators left no doubt Saturday in a 9-0 romp at Jerry Uht Park. LHP Cory VanAllen was sensational in his second start for the Senators, striking out eight in seven shutout innings.

It looked like it would be a pitcher's duel in the early going, as Erie RHP Ben Fritz worked three scoreless frames. But with two out in the 4th inning, the Senators loaded the bases with a pair of singles and a hit batsman. Ofilio Castro sliced a liner into the right-field corner to clear the bases with a three-run triple. Devin Ivany followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0.

In the 6th, the Senators struck again. Luis Jimenez doubled with one out and Jorge Padilla followed with an RBI double to stretch the lead to 5-0. Castro came up with an RBI single to make it 6-0 and Devin Ivany drove a two-run homer to left to cap the rally and extend the advantage to 8-0.

Justin Maxwell finished the scoring for Harrisburg with a laser beam over the wall in left. The solo home run made it 9-0.

Meanwhile, VanAllen cruised through seven innings. The lefty allowed two hits and two walks while striking out eight. Steve Schmoll and Beltran Perez each worked a scoreless inning of relief to close it out.

The shutout was the Senators' first of the season. It guaranteed a series victory. The pitching staff struck out 13, the second straight night they have whiffed double-digits.

The Senators are now 22-13 overall. The SeaWolves lost their sixth straight game to fall to 15-20. The series concludes Sunday with RHP Jordan Zimmermann (0-1, 1.59ERA) on the mound for the Senators in a 1:05 PM first pitch.
