Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers stopped a five-game losing skid with a 10-4 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at San Manuel Stadium on Saturday. Michael Hermosillo and Hutton Moyer combined to reach base in all ten plate appearances the duo combined for at the top of the order and Jake Jewell pitched six innings of one-run baseball out of the pen for the win.
The 66ers (46-86, 23-39) fell behind in the top of the first as Sixers' starter Alex Meyer was hurt by a pair of Inland Empire errors. The 66ers committed a season-worst five errors in the contest. Meyer then rolled through his next 1.2 innings fanning two in his first start with the Sixers following a trade from the Twins last month. Inland Empire chipped at the lead with a run in the first on a RBI infield single from Zach Houchins. The Sixers got another run in the third to make it 3-2 in favor of the Quakes (76-56, 34-28).
Inland Empire took the lead in the fourth when Moyer launched a Chris Anderson (1-2) fastball off the video board in right for a 2-run dinger and a 4-3 lead. It was Moyer's 12th homer of the season. Inland Empire led 5-3 in the sixth when with the bases loaded a balk brought in a run and Moyer followed with a ground-rule double to left center for two more RBI and a 9-3 lead.
The Quakes did get a lone run in the seventh against Jewell but the righty improved to 2-14 on the year with his six innings of two hit work with three walks and three Ks. The Sixers capped the scoring in the eighth when Hermosillo tagged his second double of the game and eventually scored on Houchins' groundout tallying his third RBI. Hermosillo had two doubles and two singles on a 4-for-4 night as well as a walk, stolen base and scored five runs. Moyer went 2-for-2 with the double and HR with four RBI, two walks and was hit by a pitch.
Houchins and Ayendy Perez also had multi-hit games for the Sixers. Andre Ethier went 0-for-3 on an injury rehab assignment for the Dodgers with Rancho Cucamonga.
The 66ers home schedule concludes tomorrow at 5:05 pm vs the Quakes. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
