
Herd Falls in Mexico City

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, lost to the Mexico City Capitanes 100-98.
Weyen Gabriel powered the Herd with 21 points while Elijah Hughes added 14 points off the bench.
Mexico City's top scorer was Justin Wright-Foreman with 21 points followed by Keneth Faried with a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Drew Timme hit the first basket of the game, but the Capitanes moved in quickly to take an 11-4 lead in the first four minutes. The Herd came back to tie the game 11-11 before the Capitanes pushed ahead to a near double-digit edge at the three-minute mark. The teams converted six points each to close out the first quarter. The Capitanes held a 28-19 advantage at the break.
Mexico City scored four unanswered points to go up by 13 at the beginning of the second quarter. Marques Bolden and Sam Peek combined for six to bring the Herd within seven. The Capitanes hit back-to-back baskets, but the Herd stayed close scoring the next three buckets. Wisconsin continued the momentum outscoring the Capitanes 11-7 to even the game. Drew Timme secured a free throw to put the Herd on top for the first time since the start of the game. Mexico City scored the next seven points to lead 52-47 at the half.
Wisconsin started the third quarter with a crucial 8-2 run to go ahead. The teams traded the lead twice until Elijah Hughes knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to give the Herd some space. Wisconsin did not slow down moving to a seven-point head start. Mexico City countered with a 10-2 run to take the advantage. Kihei Clark hit a three-pointer to close out the third quarter and put the Herd on top 72-70.
The Capitanes tied the game on the first basket of the fourth quarter. The teams traded the lead four times before Mexico City hit three straight baskets to go up by double-digits with four minutes remaining. Wisconsin battled back to be within five points at the two-minute mark. The Herd continued to cut into the Capitanes' lead making it a two-point game with 26 seconds left. Mexico City converted one basket before sending Wenyen Gabriel to the line to secure two free throws and bring the Herd within one. Mexico City knocked down one more free throw to win the game 100-98.
The Herd will return home against the College Park Skyhawks on Jan. 17 with tip-off set for 11:30 a.m. CST.
