Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Hens headed into Saturday night's game against the Norfolk Tides coming off three straight wins and looked for their fourth against Tides' starter Ariel Miranda. Toledo put themselves in a position to notch their fourth straight win as Daniel Norris took the ball in his second rehab appearance since returning from an oblique injury.
The two teams went at it in a back and forth battle, but it was the Tides who prevailed forcing Daniel Norris out of the ballgame early in the game after a four run fifth inning. Norris found himself in a jam after walking two and surrendering a base knock to load them up. The scoring was highlighted by a Trey Mancini triple, which cleared the bases and put the home team up by a score of 5-3.
Norris' night ended after just 4.2 innings allowing five earned on five hits with just three strikeouts.
Chad Huffman got the scoring going for Toledo when he struck his 11th homer over the left field wall in the second off Miranda. Toledo second and third runs came across on a Jeff McVaney RBI groundout in the 4th and a 5th inning sac fly off the bat of Alex Presley.
The Hen pen struggled keeping the small deficit intact in the late innings of the ballgame, as Chad Bell was simply unable to find the zone on the hot Virginia night. The lefty walked four in his one inning of work allowing three runs as well as three hits.
Casey McGehee continued to mash at the plate on Saturday as he extended his hit streak to fourteen games while also extending the season high hit streak from a Mud Hens hitter. Chad Huffman also shined at the plate for Toledo recording a 3-for4 night at the dish with an RBI.
The series comes to a close on Sunday as the two teams take to the field for a 6:05 PM start at Harbor Park. Detroit Tigers starter Jordan Zimmerman makes his first start of his rehab assignment as he takes the ball for Toledo.
