RailRiders Escape Running Bulls

Moosic, Pa. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) held off a late rally from the Durham Bulls to claim a 5-4 thriller in front of a sellout crowd of 10,000 on Saturday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders (63-38) pull even in the season series with the Bulls (45-57) and have a chance to win the four-game, weekend series on Sunday. Both teams have three wins in season set.

Dietrich Enns (4-1) overcame nine hits and an erratic command to limit the Bulls to three runs, two earned, and two walks over five innings for the win. Austin Pruitt (7-6) surrendered five runs, including four in the fifth frame, on nine hits across six innings in the loss.

Trailing 3-1 entering the fifth, Cesar Puello and Jonathan Diaz set the table for a comeback by reaching on a single and a walk. Pruitt retired the next two, but Gary Sanchez flared a single into shallow right. The knock scored both runners and tied the game 3-3. Ike Davis kept the rally going by golfing a two-run homer down the right field line for a 5-3 lead.

Durham made their final surge in the eight against reliever Johnny Barbato. J.P. Arencibia lined a hanger into left and Casey Gillaspie quickly followed with a single to center. Taylor Motter walked on four pitches to load the bases. Richie Shaffer worked a full count and then forced in a run with a second straight walk.

The RailRiders turned to Holder in a nearly impossible situation. The right-hander fanned Johnny Field and Hank Conger before inducing a routine grounder to second for the final out. Holder retired the Bulls 1-2-3 in the ninth for the two-inning save, his first at Triple-A.

Puello stole three bases, the most by a RailRider in a single game this season. He 16 swipes tie him with Ben Gamel for the team lead.

The RailRiders go for the weekend series, and season series, victory over the Bulls on Sunday, July 24 at 1:05 p.m. Right-hander Kyle Haynes (3-4, 4.65) will oppose right-handed knuckler Eddie Gamboa (4-2, 2.13).
