
Red Wings Drop 22 Hits on Chiefs

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Rochester Red Wings, 11-0, Saturday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Byungho Park went went 3 for 5 with a home run and James Beresford had five hits. Rochester tallied an International League season-high 22 hits in the victory. Caleb Ramsey had three hits for the Chiefs in the loss.
Rochester (60-42) opened the scoring in the first against Syracuse starter Paolo Espino. James Beresford started the inning with a one-out bloop single to right field. Following a fly out, Daniel Palka hit a line-drive double down the right-field line, scoring Beresford. Adam Brett Walker then singled to center field, scoring Palka, making the score 2-0. In the ensuing at-bat, Byungho Park hit a two-run home run to right-center field to put Rochester on top 4-0.
The Red Wings crossed the plate again in the second. With one out, Carlos Paulino, Darin Mastroianni, and Beresford each singled, to load the bases. Jorge Polanco followed with a double into the right-field corner, plating both Paulino and Mastroianni to give Rochester a 6-0 lead.
Syracuse (46-54) was held scoreless by the combination of Jason Wheeler, Neil Ramirez, and Marcus Walden. Wheeler went six and two thirds, allowing just four hits while striking out six.
Rochester added to its lead in the seventh. Park began the inning with a single into center field off Syracuse reliever Jaron Long. Following consecutive fly outs, Paulino singled into left field. With runners on first and second and two outs, Mastroianni slapped a base hit to center field, scoring Park to put the Red Wings up 7-0.
The Red Wings scord four more times in the ninth. Sam Runion came on in relief of Long and Wilfredo Tovar met him with a single. Mastroianni followed with a walk, putting runners on first and second with no outs. After a fly out, Beresford singled to right field, loading the bases. Polanco then hit a line-drive single to center field, scoring Tovar. Palka followed with a two-run double to left field, scoring both Mastroianni and Beresford. Lastly, with one out and runners on second and third, Walker hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Polanco and give the Red Wings the final 11-0 advantage.
Syracuse and Rochester wrap up the home-and-home series Sunday afternoon. Reynaldo Lopez is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Pat Dean for the Red Wings. Game time is set for 1:05 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium.
